Turning off XP loss/gain as an option?

If that's all you want then I have an alternative solution, one that all the pro exp loss crowd would happily agree to:

What if there was an option to lock your exp at 0% of any level you have reached? So you made it to 99, but are not interested in the grind for 100, nor want to see your exp bar go backwards? Click the toggle and lock your exp at 0% of level 99. Basically like making 99 max level. No gain, no loss. You could, of course undo this at any time. Sounds good?

i would love this tbh.. i totally get why some ppl think it doesnt make sense.. but it bothers the living heck out of me.. i see the xp bar go up.. then randomly i'm one shot by something.. it's like the games designed to give me false hope.. it's a shit awful feeling..

sarno i'm just coming from a perspective that i like this challenging game but i'm having difficulty with this thing, and then some people are basically just telling me i suck at games, right? like i am reading big paragraphs of essential, get good lol.. which is fine but how is that not elitist

When I get my name explicitly dragged through the mud I'm not really interested in what "people" have been saying.

Sure - I can be accused of being verbose. Guilty. But my posts cannot be fairly summarised as 'you suck' or 'get good'. So I don't understand why I'm being branded with such a term.

Why are you so obsessed with leveling to 100 to begin with lol. If you're already lvl 99 that extra skill point won't make much of a difference. The real progression is the gear improvement not that 1 extra skill point so why do you even care?

Its not lvl100, I could do 50x lvl83 Sanctum Tomes for a whole afternoon of farming and get it easily.

I just don't like how bad it feels to lose exp and see the exp bar go backwards. So I want exp loss gone because it feels bad and I don't like it, that's the only reason. Yeah I could ignore it by getting to lvl100 in a boring way, or spending multiple divines on 5-way rotas but that's just a chore at that point, its not fun.

OR you could just not get lvl 100? I don't think I ever got it or if I did it was like once. I'll do the rippiest, juiciest content I can possibly do at lvl 97 and couldn't give less of a shit that I die and lose xp cause I don't need those extra skill points. Could I invest more in my defences and naturally level up to 100? Probably, if I even had the patience to play the game for that long. But I don't want to, and I accept that it's entirely my choice and I'm perfectly happy with it. Why can't you?

You are right, leveling to 100 via 5way/sanctum/whatever else when your defenses aren't airtight enough to survive most of the time in super juiced content is boring and unfun. And also completely unnecessary - which is why some people choose not to do it, and so should you.

Honestly my dude this is 100% a you problem and something that bothers you specifically because you're just dead set on the little bar at the bottom of the screen for no reason. It has no real impact on the game. There is absolutely nothing "gatekeeping" or preventing you from doing any content you like.

The xp loss has its purpose, it's a way to signal to players that they need to upgrade. If, say, you're lvl 70 and constantly dying in T10 maps, it's a sign of where you stand and the game's way of forcing you to gear up so you can progress, as opposed to artificially letting you progress through content you are clearly not ready for.

I personally don't really care much about the xp loss (it can get frustrating when it's unfair - aka severe lag and deaths I couldn't have possibly prevented but that doesn't happen all that often) but if changes are to be made to the game, I'd like to see those resources invested in something useful, as opposed to "removing xp loss cause some dude is triggered by the yellow bar at the bottom". If you can't find a logical argument besides "I don't like seeing less yellow on my bar" perhaps it isn't the most pertinent of feedbacks after all. Just a thought.

I would ask: where, exactly, is this "you suck at the game"? Because I think there is a certain disconnect in understanding here.

The ones that continue to TRY and make it personal are two users....but the ones you seem to have called out haven't done that.

I may have called out one particular player with a history of refusal to learn basic mechanics and ultimately gets clobbered by them...but that is a special case with a lot of backstory.

Dying is nothing to be ashamed of...even dying a lot. Where it crosses a reasonable argumentative line with me is when the person who continues dying ACTIVELY decides he never wants to adjust his builds or playstyle, refuses to engage with defenses of any kind, and then claims its the game's fault for dying a lot and setting progress back. That is an absurd line of reasoning for why the exp penalty should be removed.
