Turning off XP loss/gain as an option?
" In this thread you have raised Last Epoch as an example of a game that you believe is doing this correctly, you have suggested if Path of Exile doesn't change to be more like LE you'll stop playing, and you have suggested (without evidence) a majority of people agree with you. Genuine and sincere question; Now, LE is currently available exclusively on Steam. While PoE has a standalone client, an Epic Games client, an Xbox client, and a PlayStation client. So this comparison is profoundly unfair in LE's favour. ...but even with all of that bias inherent to the comparison - where is everyone? The marketleader will always have the largest number of naysayers, detractors, and those predicting an inevitable demise unless Change X or Change Y happens. Because the marketleader has the largest number of users, and the largest number of people talking about it at all. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" I can't even comprehend what 90% of any of these words mean. Exp loss is bad, nothing will ever change that. Lifelong NEET, loud and proud about it.

Sarno, I applaud you for trying to let objectivity win.
However, experience with Toforto tells me that it's an exercise in futility, as he is not interested in a debate, only an echo chamber supporting his reality. I too agree, that the XP loss is not just negative, but a lovely dance of risk vs reward in the difficulty of the content you impose on yourself, balanced with your ability to build a character to match said content. Reaching 100 should be a feel good moment, not a given regardless of the above. As much as it may add to the experience of some to remove the penalty, it will actively detract from other people's satisfaction and sense of accomplishment (digital or otherwise). |

" It’s not a bad system. If many deaths and the experience penalty becomes an issue, it essentially does what it’s meant to, filter out weaker or bad builds from harder content, rightfully so. " 404 Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" Yes ofc. That's why I started using a certain ignore list script I found on these forums, allowing me to hide comments from any profile that I put in that list. Also the old "sense of accomplishment" argument is meaningless in SC Trade, where you can buy your way to lvl100 with legion 5-way carries if you pay them enough divines. I've done that, I've also done Sanctum to lvl100 multiple times. There's no such thing as "the achievement of reaching lvl100" or even a ladder in SC Trade. First lvl100 always appears in the first few days(or first 24 hours). The only actual ladder is how deep the first guy is in delve lul It shouldn't matter to you how other people play the game, does it take away from people's sense of accomplishment that I can use my 6-portal defense and corpse-rush t17 bosses now? And Uber Bosses? On my glass-cannon build in SC Trade while others kill ubers in HC SSF? No it does not. It wouldn't affect you in any way if others could disable exp loss with a toggle button, and if it does that's your own choice to be affected by how others choose to enjoy this videogame. Man, get out of here. I earned my level 100 and now I can die as many times as I want.

There is already the cost of losing a portal. There is not ever a solid argument for the EXP penalty. If you repeatedly die to deadlier content than what you usually run, the portals are supposed to let you learn and teach you something. Getting a fuck you on top is just adding insult to injury. I will always advocate against it.
That said, if you want good EXP and your PC can handle it, run the Breach + Beyond strat and use Omen of Amelioration. I managed to get from 99 to 100 in like 1.5-2 hours with my super laggy build. Now I can stop worrying about it and just run riskier content without the fear of major setback. At least GGG did relent a little and lets us fight risky bosses without losing EXP anymore. I love that change, as I now run the content immediately rather than after the next level up (except for the ones I'm super familiar with). On that note, fuck Maven, Exarch and Sirus. Given that this has been probably the single most heavily debated issue in the entire history of this game, pretending that the opposing side has no valid arguments is extremely disingenuous if not deliberately dishonest.
But given how easy it is to hit level 100 now, the exp penalty absolutely needs to be increased, not removed. |

XP loss is fine as it is, however, I would like there to be an option to cancel XP loss or rollback altogether when there is evidence of severe lag spikes\desync (I would imagine it's not too far fetched to retrieve data that proves it).
This league has been pretty terrible in terms of performance, and I've lost plenty of XP while looking at my character being full HP and perfectly fine when it was actually apparently dead. This is not a HW issue I'm not playing POE on potato systems and I have no such issues in any other game. It's not a huge deal but it can be frustrating when you don't even realize you're dying and the game is so staggery that you can't even ALTF4. |

" Why does accomplishment have to be related to a ladder? I feel accomplishment reaching 100. So why is my feeling less worth then yours? I like the incentive that is stopping me from throwing my character into content I can not do. No penalty would just make the game a brain rot and would not encourage me to actually think. Buying boosts is not for me as I don't feel I'm playing the game anymore. I guess xp switch could work as long as it is only in private leagues, in my opinion. |
