Why is the game so HATED? And how to fix that (in my opinion)
|
I’ve played around 2.5k hours and have two level 100 characters, so from my perspective the game is definitely addictive—but does that mean it’s good? I’m not so sure.
I feel that a lot of people play this game without truly enjoying it, and a lot of people are leaving early-league. My conclusion: It could be a great ARPG, maybe the best, but it’s being ruined by things that need to go or be improved. Here is the list for me. - NO EXPLOITS Before release, I really urge GGG to make sure, triple-check, and identify exploits before launch. It often feels like some streamers are ahead of the developers when it comes to discovering these. Exploits damage the experience on multiple levels—morally, economically, and in how they divide the player base. It ruins the game. - REMOVE TEMPORAL CHAINS AND CHILLED GROUND These mechanics feel unnecessarily frustrating. PLEASE consider removing them and standardising movement speed across classes. Around 40% movement speed feels like a reasonable baseline. Right now, some classes can reach extreme speeds and barely feel these effects anyway, while others are heavily punished. This creates an uneven and frustrating experience. - IMPROVE BALANCE Balance has improved, but there’s still a lot of work to do. Every class should feel like it has the same potential—not necessarily achieved in the same way, but equally viable at the top end. - REWORK EXP LOSS ON DEATH This is one of the most frustrating mechanics for many players. Level 100 should remain difficult to reach, but the penalty could be reduced—maybe cut the EXP loss in half. Alternatively, introduce mechanics like recovering lost EXP, or allowing one “free” death every X hours. Right now, Exp loss is having the opposite effect: many players don’t even try to reach max level anymore. Instead of motivating players, it discourages them or makes them LEAVE. GGG, you need them to stay; do something. - FIX THE CRASHES OMG. Performance is getting worse over time. I’m personally experiencing a full one-minute freeze every 15 minutes. I want to enjoy the game, but this makes it incredibly frustrating. Nobody wants a toxic relationship with a game they like. - MAKE THE ENDGAME GOOD Looking forward to what GGG is planning for 0.5, but this is crucial. The endgame needs to feel rewarding and engaging long-term. That’s it from me. Volfa - level 100 Volfafo - level 100 Last bumped on Apr 3, 2026, 5:34:44 PM

It's not hated. It's just an extreme disappointment so players are angry.
We expect better from 2nd game to be better than the first, not worse. GGG has been doing this for 15 years now. They are considered ARPG veterans and yet make basic mistakes. Honestly. What you mentioned doesn't even scratch the surface in design flaws for the game. Some of it is because their views are flawed. Take for example Johnathan saying they have to make enemies faster than players or they will just skip them. That's a red flag. What conditions have you created where it's beneficial for players to simply skip enemies? aka Bosh Rush syndrome. Defense and Offense formulas and designs are just so far off the mark I don't know how they could make a basic game. Let alone a live service one with many players involved. Most players I know enjoyed Act 1 in 0.1. That leaves just about everything suspect to why the game quickly falls apart after. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

The game isn't perfect and your feedback isn't invalid, but if you truly hate it while simultaneously having 2.5k hrs, that's not a problem the developers are going to be able to solve for you.
Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

" Getting max lvl is supposed to be pain in the ass and mistakes while doping so are supposed to hurt af. It`s simply correct design and needs no rework. As a d2 player, recovering exp with body is cool mechanic tho. |

" When did I ever say I hate it? Can you read? Well I hate when it crashes every 15 minutes yes, because it pevents me to actually play a game I like. That is something devs can solve. I said a lot of people hate the game. Check Steam reviews... And that's too bad because as I said, again please read correctly, it has the potential to be the best ARPG if not ruined by basic mistakes. Volfa - level 100

So it needs rework. Make it still difficult yes, but less frustrating. Volfa - level 100

" From what I heard they are thinking releasing it end of the year. If that's the case itseems way too soon considering the state it's in now... Volfa - level 100

Why is it hated? Here's why:
- Movement speed nerf after a lot of feedback the game is slow - Itemization butchering, they destroy anything that is fun - They keep making large maps with atrocious pathing, even though a lot of feedback on this was made. They released the new act with even more tedious pathing. It's also hated because the core of the game contradicts the vision they want to implement and they keep splitting/polarizing the community in camps. Trying to implement a combo meaningful combat system in this core is completely absurd. It has good things going on, like WASD, nice graphics and a better gem system but that's it really. They need to stop ruining itemization and quit making our walking speed trash. Last edited by Oinkaments#6390 on Mar 28, 2026, 3:57:58 PM

" I absolutely can read. And I can think. Saying "A lot of people hate the game" is not on the level of titling an entire thread "Why is the game so hated?...". At best it is click bait, but worse, it enables bad-faith rhetoric because it's a way to justify a lack of personal responsibility of you're own opinion by posturing it as being some other hypothetical group's opinion. My comment was written to make you choose to take responsibility - do you hate the game or not? So you do not. Then why define the overall game as being "hated"? Because "a lot of other people" hate it, and I should go read Steam reviews and while also learning how to read. The game is 75% positive reviews on Steam, 25% negative, and part of my response to you was rooted in the fact that almost half of the negative reviews read like this: " Actions speak louder than words. Perhaps there would have been merit to a title "Why do some people love to hate the game?" and presented as a positively oriented personal wish-list for: - Performance improvements - Bug fixes & exploit patches - Changes to mechanics that annoy you (slows, xp-loss penalties) - Endgame enhancements Along with justifications rooted in your own experience. But your title postures it as a "Everyone hates the game and this is why" statement, and then you continue to speak on behalf of an entire player base in most of your points. That's not appropriate to do, and it's what I'm referring to when I mentioned taking responsibility for your own opinions. You're baiting players into a thread with a misleading title and then putting words in their mouths to lend credibility to your own opinions. It makes the players who don't agree with your opinions become indignantly defensive, and it's because of the rhetoric, not necessarily the game, or you, or even your opinions. I even agree with a lot of your feedback, but I still don't appreciate feeling like I was just considered to be part of the group that hates the game and supports your ideas just because I'm part of the player base. I was trying to show you that the rhetoric of your post undermines your feedback. Posturing your 2.5k hour playtime against your own premise suggests that your feedback could be rooted in addiction, or it at least should not be taken at face value - similar to some of those Steam reviews. Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.
