Am I doing something stupid? I'm running destructive play, but getting one shot a lot (sometimes 6x per map). Memory monster packs, crimson ore packs, some bosses. I'm avoiding damage mods on alch maps, and -Max res, extra proj, no leech, less recovery, reflect. I have 43k armour without flasks, 5 endurance charges 75 all res overcapped 50% reduced curse effect (flask) basalt/granite flasks ok roll and almost always up 37% evasion from a spectre with grace aura (it hasn't died yet) 78% block 61% spell block (I can't cap this yet) 380 life gain on block 3.2k life 0.8k energy shield Have I done something stupid in my build? It feels like my block isn't working or something. (I've verified it works and the life gain on hit is happening) I plan to run animate guardian soon with sign of the sin eater, as I don't have ignite immunity (shock immune from tempest shield, freeze from pantheon brine king / abberath) I'd love to increase my max res cap later as well, but I can't believe I get one shot so much with this level of defence. I can afford maybe 5 div or so in the next few days. Was thinking maybe brass dome for some max res. Last bumped on Mar 15, 2026, 9:29:03 AM

yeahh. life thing. 2 unblocked elemental hits will likely kill this build. Maybe two years ago i noticed how white skeleton archers deal 2000 damage in red maps.. Then in affliction league i had a character with 13-14 k life and it still got one shoted from time to time (mostly against tier 17 bosses). I think its quite difficult to make tanky character with low hitpoints, you would need to use enfeeble, call of the void ring, fortify, more endurance charges, increasing max res is mandatory for all builds, progenesis flask, scitzo ascendancy node from delirium bloodline. Most straightforward way is to just increase hitpoints.
I do want to test new defense layer mechanic this league- thats block + 6k-10k ward with fast recovery possibly with 60% chance to not lose ward on receiving hit. However ward is a lot like block, so what does help here is some guard skill like molten shell with trigger skill "cast on ward break" which perfectly patches a defense hole which is unblocked hits with broken ward. I dont know how well it will work, also good setup is also really expensive. Last edited by Andrius319#4787 on Mar 12, 2026, 10:01:17 AM

For life builds I find it's better to lean into avoiding damage than trying to tank it. My build has 9 endurance charges and almost 5k life and I still get hits that take 95% of my life all the time. Main thing keeping me alive most the time isn't my tank it's my decent block chance imo. I once made a build with zero life nodes that just stacked evasion and block chance and it honestly preformed better than most other life builds I played trying to scale their max hit. A lot of that is because it was able to have good dps and movespeed.

This build is far from tanky.
If you want to build around Glancing Blow with an armour based build, go for Aegis Aurora instead of Surrender. Remove the lifecraft on your chestpiece and craft spellblock instead, drop Zealots Oath and spend 1 skillpoint on the 15% inc life mastery. After that replace any piece of gear without good liferolls and by that I mean about 100+ life. Except the chestpiece obviously. That should get you somewhere near 4k life, which still isnt a lot but if you manage to stack some 2K ES on top it should be ok-ish combined with Aegis. Also consider running a guard skill, molten shell linked to cwdt would make the most sense, since you do focus on armour. That wont prevent a clean 1shot but all those scenarios where to get killed by a thousand papercuts are suddenly far less dangerous. |

Thanks, I went surrender early because it was 80c vs 7 div for aegis. It's calmed down now so I bought one.
switched the chest craft to spell block and got the inc life. Equipped two helical rings. Not sure what sockets to drop to put in the cwdt molten. I guess I have to drop the static strike. |

Just noticed that your Holy Strike is augmented with lvl1 trauma and you also linked a regular trauma support. I guess thats an oversight?
Doesnt make much sense to me, especially since you are leveling other supports you could slot in easily. Anyhow, hope the build feels better and stay sane |

Yeah, I got a bunch and am still figuring out best imbues. level 1 ancestral call felt good. Not sure if trauma is even a good link. I think minion damage does more.

" 3.2k life ...... nothing more to explain. learning is a painful process ... knowledge is the most deadly weapon.

I think your main problem is that you are using a Minion build with a weapon that doesn't give them damage same as it does for you. Minions have no base STR, so that Brutus' Lead Sprinkler you are using doesn't actually scale anything for them. You'd need something like The Baron for this to work to begin with. Unless Holy Strike has a hidden interaction I don't know about.

Glancing blows is such a bait keystone. You are actually lowering your EHP by 15% with the keystone allocated.
Even with decent recovery on block it wont save you from a high damage one shot like straight block does. |
