friend, they did what was functionally a softcore gauntlet last league called phrecia, did you find it fun? a softcore gauntlet is PoE with more dying, which I didn't find to be very fun, but I find the gauntlet fun and you probably would too.

Last gauntlet had like 600k+ chars, and more than 100k+ unique accounts (stats from Ziz himself).

Yes, competing for the prize pool is only for the select few that practice hard and have the time, commitment and skill.

But for most of us (as evidenced by the numbers) it's just a different experience. Play it for the fun of it, not to compete, and you may have a good time.
