Bad builds/reckless playstyles should have consequences when they cause the player to die, and xp death tax is pretty good way to do it. I prefer it far more than something like repair bills/deleting the arena.
There's also nothing wrong with staying level 95-99 and playing as reckless as you want. If grinding to level 100 feels bad you dont have to do it. What is an issue is situations where the player dies from something not properly conveyed. eg, projectiles visual fails to load and dozens of "nothing from nowhere" kill you. "Beidat honored the pact, though Beardat wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."
