Why PoE 2 is failing.(My unprofessional, nerdy, worthless opinion/Rant)

I don't know if it's failing. I paid and I get to play when I want. Haven't played in a while now. When the next Season starts I'll play again.

That's the problem... from my perspective. The first few weeks of the Season were great. I bought a bunch of Unique's really cheap and stored them. A few weeks after that they were selling for 50+ or 100+ Divs. Then I used that money to max out my main and farmed until I got tired of it.

All while acutely aware of how screwed the economy is outside of the first few weeks of a Season.

I don't expect them to fix anything economy related. Obviously there is a HUGE RMT component to this game and the community. It seems kind of obvious as to why nothing seems to be done about it. Not sure that it would fix anything if they did...

Beyond that the Season seems to just last a bit too long.

Now I'm playing some other game with a somewhat new season... and there is still RMT spam but I honestly don't see why anyone would use RMT in that game. So I guess that would suggest you can make a game where RMT isn't a thing, but that would require the loot system in POE2 to be very different.

On the other hand just think how all the active players combined in the first few weeks of this Season were getting a very low drop rate of Divs... yet there was pretty much already an unlimited supply "for sale". Weird ya know. *edit* Or at least it comes across that way with all the spam etc.

This game IS failing and its easy to see. We all know why and its been gone over quite a few times.

The vision they have while also being transparent and blind.

......and someone said the playercount showed how successful it is... what player count?

10,000 people online and 24 hour peak was 10,100.

This is basically the same thing that happened early on in PoE1's lifecycle.

People saying "dead game" "game is dying/failing".

Here's one example, but there are countless others, you can just search the forum for "dead game" and sort by ascending lol:

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/381941

I'll save you the time and sum up all the sentiment in every post: "Game is in a death spiral, a cut and dry failure, look at these Steam chart numbers, oh my God what a dead game, It was only popular because D3 dropped the ball so hard, but it will fade".

People made posts every day like this for years.

We all know how it's turned out. 13 years of a "dead game" that you're all holding up the current "dead games" Steam player count against, as if now it suddenly means something.

How a bout we let the rest of the game get out of the oven before we start announcing it's time of death... lol
Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.
They ain't cooking.
They cremating.

Like every other game?
It's failing because it's not a good game.

The items suck.

The skill tree is awful.

The support gems are increased magic find on tuesdays type shit.

The build diversity sucks.

The game just sucks overall and is massively worse than PoE1 in every way.

POE 2 is NOT failing.

Lets not get hysteria. The massively successful EA launch probably give them healthy 8 figures revenue that they can chill for a couple of years financially.

PoE 2 is successful by most matrix, and will continue to be so, even at current update pace, as there are a signicant amount of dieharders with deep pockets.

But if PoE2 goal is to get the wider audiences, from the typical mainstream gamers and the game that shall not be name, they will IMO end up pleasing NOT the wider audience or its core "hardcore" arpg audiences.

POE never manage to be mainstream, and its fine PO2 remain a niche game that push above its weight.

if they keep to this modest ambition. They can and will be sucessful.

For me the biggest thing is locking skills to weapons. It limits us too much.
Looking at player counts without understanding WHY people are not playing is poor research tbh. I'm totally not sure how one can simply look at a number and then magically understand how tens of thousands of people think. You should be in politics with those skills, not playing POE2.

Saying that you are not "edumacated" is a pretty nice way to destroy any argument you may make. "I want to rant, but nothing I'm ranting about should be listened to because I'm uneducated by my own admission. I don't have any type of data to back up my assertions, but you should believe me because I looked at a number AND my friends don't want to play." Super solid, fact based research friend.

* People can stop playing because they dont have the time right now.
* People can stop playing because they play too much and their parents or family memebers stopped them. Addiction IS a thing.
* People can stop playing because they are waiting for the next league and enjoying their time on another game in the meantime.
* People can still love the game, but are dabblers, they arent long term players. They play shittons of games and are always moving on to a new one.

"The earth is flat bro, believe me. Do your own research!"

I love the game and am waiting for some spare tiem to sit down and play it again. Its literally as simple as that.
