Make Magic/Blue Items Great Again
|
In Diablo 2 Magic Items could roll greater affixes that were stronger than the affixes Rare Items could roll. This was balanced by the fact Magic Items could only roll 2 affixes. It was a nice design that made Magic Items relevant even in end game.
In Path of Exile, Magic Items should have the ability to somehow roll "greater" affixes too. I mocked up a quick example in mspaint where using a vaal orb would increase all affix values by 60%. It's just a spitball example, I'm sure you guys will come up with something way better. ![]() Thank you for making the greatest ARPG of all time, keep up the good work and thank you for reading my suggestion thread. I'm very interested in this concept. I don't know about the specifics of the stat roll ranges. But I imagine Normal/Magic/Rare/Unique items having different pools to roll Corruption stats/enchants on could potentially be a really cool strategic layer to engage w/.
I'm cool w/ it being just a simple Vaal and not some super special/chase Currency, also. Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.

It`s funny how after 25 years diablo2 is still the goat of itemization.
As for this idea, i could +1 even vaal-less version but before that i`d like some1 more familiar to comment how it would affect recomb balance(because you can`t recomb corrupted items, right?). Last edited by SalamiHaze#9389 on Apr 1, 2026, 6:07:30 PM

+1
Agreed. To make Magic Items competitive with Rares, the "Greater Affix" is a great idea and needs to offer something Rares simply cannot achieve, without making Rares obsolete. Instead of a flat percentage increase across the board, when you Vaal a Magic item, each affix is independently multiplied by a value between 1.5x and 2.0x Since Magic Item is now Corrupted, you cannot use a Regal Orb to turn it into a Rare and locked into those two massive stats forever. I could see perfect rolls of 2.0x on specific affixes making some Magic Items highly sought after for some builds. Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Apr 2, 2026, 5:58:27 PM
