[RP Talk] How can Warriors use Energy Shield?
|
This thing has been bothering me since the first time I started playing PoE2. How can a blacksmith -our Warrior- can natively use/equip/emit? Energy Shield? Both in gear and via the passive tree. What even is Energy Shield in the world of Wraeclast? Because at face value it does look like something a sorcerer or a mage would use to protect themselves. It seems “magic” oriented to me. The same way Warriors are stacking up armour and dex classes use evasion. In fact, it’s equally odd for a Huntress or a Ranger, even a Mercenary to have access to ES 🤷♂️
Is it because of the philosophy that every class HAS to be able to use what every other class access to? Idk, it just feels super odd to me to be a brute Warrior stacking my magic aura. Maybe if I had to spec into it somehow via a specific passive tree node or an Ascendancy then maybe I could see how it’d make sense. I would much prefer to be able to stack health for these classes instead of ES but the game doesn’t seem to be set up this way. I don’t like the magic aura on my physical classes :( Am I the only one feeling this way? Last bumped on Mar 31, 2026, 11:56:57 PM

Well, looking at the lore blurbs on keystones related to energy shield it sounds like ES is a defense based on spirit, faith, and intelligence. The buff that boosts energy shield is also called Discipline. These are all mental traits everyone has inherently and not restricted to magic users.
Several poe1 uniques also refer to energy shield as spirit(poe1 doesnt have the stat 'spirit' like poe2 does). such as; the devouring diadem, and the replica sorrow of divine. So it sounds like energy shield is a form of toughness from mental fortitude/resilience and not a magic woo-woo barrier of the arcane like mind over* matter offers. " Oh, wow. Thanks for the lore, I really do appreciate it. The fact ES is a form of toughness from a mental fortitude/resilience actually sounds pretty cool! I can’t put my finger on why it felt so “magic” in my mind. I guess the term “energy shield” just sounds magic or spirit-like to me. Maybe if it was called “barrier”instead? A bit less extravagant but so is health and armour 🤷♂️ |
