[SOLVED] Canada Latency spike (POE1 and POE2 only game that has ever done that)

Hi this is frustrating to say the least. Both POE and POE2 are giving me the same problems.

I currently also play BF6, Diablo 4, Grounded2 and dozens of more games with a stable and flawless experience and latency

PC SPEC:

CPU: AMD 5800X3d
RAM: DDR4 32 gig
GPU: AMD RX 9080XT

Every league is pretty much the same story on both games.

Also to add context if this helps:

CAT5e cable 1.5m long directly into a fiber 1.5 gigabit connection from Bell Canada

Frankly, that baffles me.

You have an average ping of 56 ms to the router in your own home.

It should be, quite literally, less than one if you're using a cable as described in your second post.

You also have spikes up to 589 ms... after your internet traffic has traveled maybe a meter or two - an absolutely tiny proportion of the distance between your home and GGG's provider's data centre.

|------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------|

Average ping: 65 ms

Worst ping: 814 ms

The first thing I would try is physically removing the cable from both ends, checking it for signs of damage, and then re-inserting it. This has the added bonus of helping if the cable has simply because loose at one end or the other. Make sure it's not loose when you re-insert it!

If that doesn't help, next I would try a power cycle.

update,

Thank you Sarno for the heads up, I did run the WinMTR in claude and I have found that the Gigahub offered by Bell Canada is terrible at routing and I will now reset my network with DMZ on it and use the 1gigabyte connection on my router to see if it does a difference
Unless it is in some way defective, I would be surprised if that is effective.

It's up to you. I'd be inclined to stick to standard troubleshooting and work through a process of elimination so that we can establish what the cause is and thus find a solution. By contrast, an LLM is likely to be rather more... scattered, and not have a single coherent approach.

Thank you Sarno,

In this case my research shows that the gigahub is a pain in the ass and its hardware is really that bad I did:

MASSIVE improvement! Look at this comparison:

BeforeAfterHop 1 Avg65ms0ms

✅Hop 1 Worst 814ms 4ms
✅Hop 2 Avg 101ms 0ms
✅Hop 2 Worst 1410ms 6ms
✅Final Hop Avg 126ms 3ms
✅Final Hop Worst 1411ms 7ms

That's a 99% reduction in worst case spikes! From 1411ms down to 7ms worst case is extraordinary.

What fixed it:

✅ SIP ALG disabled — this was likely the biggest culprit
✅ Network adapter buffers reduced
✅ All traffic routed through Deco
✅ Gigahub WiFi disabled reducing CPU load

Are you aware the post immediately preceding your own is the person who had created this thread confirming they had resolved the problem by troubleshooting an issue within their home network, after an industry standard diagnostics test which is unaffiliated with Grinding Gear Games had proven said problem existed and had nothing to do with the servers?
