Chaining and Hydrosphere/Tornado
|
There used to be people who chained off of Hydrosphere for better single target damage.
However, the Chain page on the PoE wiki states the following: Chaining does not allow shotgunning: enemies that were already hit by a skill use firing simultaneous projectiles cannot be hit again by chaining projectiles from that skill use (by any projectile in that set). Doesn't this clearly state that chaining off of Hydrosphere or Tornado to gain more hits on a single target should not work? Last bumped on Mar 29, 2026, 3:13:31 PM

" Perhaps a bit strange to be answering a 9 month old post, but i was doing some google research on an adjacent topic, and since there seems to be very little information about this particular query, I will weigh in: My understanding is that splitting an arrow (such as from snipers mark) and have that projectile return actually bypasses this restriction. Even if this is untrue (this is hard to test on a functional build due to number of projectiles and visual noise) it sure feels like it on some projectile skills such as elemental hit of the spectrum and lightning arrow with their aoe and pseudo-aoe components, respectively. Moreover, Tornado Shot is a special case, as it is the only 'true' shotgun bow skill (as far as I'm aware). Each secondary projectiles can only hit the same target once, but one secondary projectile from each arrow can each hit the same target. Since the spread is not uniform, some arrows will have all their secondary projectiles completely miss an enemy, and instead hit the tornado/hydrosphere. In this case, it will chain back to the enemy if it is still in range. It goes without saying though, that this is only worth doing if it's automated. |
